Required preparatory work
Once you have registered for the course, you will need to spend at least 20 hours on preparatory work
- 1 | Grammar tasks – we will provide you with a set of tasks to help you develop your language awareness and explicit knowledge of English grammar. There is no fee for this material.
- 2 | Guided reading – you will need to acquire a copy of The Practice of English Language Teaching (5th edition) by Jeremy Harmer and read some specified chapters.
Optional pre-CELTA grammar course
To help trainees prepare for the CELTA course, we also offer a two-day grammar awareness course (10 hours in total) immediately before each CELTA course start date.
The course is aimed at people who have a “native-speaker” intuitive feel for English, but who have not previously had to gain explicit knowledge of the grammar of the language.
Participants will learn about the most important categories in English grammar and the terminology used to describe them. It will build on topics covered in the pre-course tasks described above.
The fee for this course is €135.
If you would like more information about this course, please indicate this on your CELTA application form and we can discuss it in your interview.
